Silverstar Car Wash in Sioux City is helping local students head back to school with confidence and even some excitement through a community-driven back-to-school initiative that brought together teammates, customers and SCHEELS.
The initiative began with an idea from Erika Bamsey, who recently was promoted to Director in the Sioux City market. Bamsey proposed a back-to-school backpack drive that would put much-needed school supplies directly into the hands of local children in her desire to find a meaningful way for the Silverstar team to give back.
SCHEELS generously donated 100 backpacks. Silverstar teammates, customers and SCHEELS worked together to donate the school supplies needed to fill the backpacks. The Silverstar team took it from there stuffing backpacks in preparation for the community event scheduled for August 16.
“Community involvement is at the heart of who we are, and this is a great example of what happens when our teammates see an opportunity to make a difference and take action,” said Terry Emerson, Chief Executive Officer of MOJO Family of Brands, parent company to Silverstar Car Wash.
“Erika’s idea came from a genuine desire to support local families, and we are incredibly proud of the way our Silverstar team, customers and Scheels came together to bring it to life. We hope these backpacks help make the start of the school year a little brighter for 100 Sioux City students,” recognized Andrea Vetos, MOJO Family of Brands Vice President of Operations.
Bamsey said the initiative was especially meaningful because it allowed the Silverstar team to make a direct impact in the community they serve every day.
“I wanted to find a way for us to give back to the kids and families right here in Sioux City,” said Erika Bamsey, Director of Silverstar Car Wash. “What started as a simple idea quickly became a true team effort.”
